what to buy: Tomato Basil Soup

When winter hits, I love soup. There is something about a warm bowl of tomato soup that makes any snowy day better. With endless choices of where and what kind of soup to buy, the choices can be tough. With tomato soup, a lot can go wrong. It can’t be too thin, bland, too thick, or over-powering. Through hits and misses, I’ve found my top 3 favorite tomato basil soups that are delicious in every way.

#1 Purple Onion Cafe Tomato Bisque (pictured above with a Minnesota NICE-Tea)

This cafe in Dinkytown is my go-to study spot. With drinks including tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cider, I never get sick of it. It has great food all day including breakfast sandwiches, salads, and this amazing soup.

#2 Lund’s Frozen Tomato Basil Soup

Lund’s and Byerly’s has its own line of frozen products, one of which is soups. The soups are all good, but tomato basil is the best. The second best, in my opinion, is the White Chicken Chili.

#3 Panera Bread Creamy Tomato

Panera Bread is always good, but its soup/salad combo is the way to go. The creamy tomato will warm you up in a second.
